1. Q: When should I check and change my screen sheet?

A:when obvious decreasing of productivity is watched, you may need to replace the screen sheet with a new one or screen sheet with higher opening rate.

If there is material regurgitation from inlet, you may also need to clean the screen sheet or replace it with a new one.

If the mash from hammer mill is oversized, the screen sheet may be broken. You need to repair it or replace it with new one, or tighten the screen on to the frame.

2. Q:How is the hammer mill screen sheet designed?

A:The number of opening in a hammer mill screen sheet determines the particle size and grinding efficiency. The screen sheet must be designed to maintain its integrity and provide the greatest amount of openings. Feed producers need to pay particular attention to the ratio of opening area to horsepower. Not enough opening area per horsepower results in the generation of heat. When the heat generated exceeds 44°C to 46°C (120-125°F), capacity may be decreased by up to 50 percent.

The removal of sized material from a hammer mill is a critical design feature. Proper output of material affects not only the efficiency of operation, but also particle size. When the correct ratio of opening area to horsepower is used and proper clearance between hammer and screen face is maintained, most of the particles of right size will exit the screen sheet in a timely manner.
